If your New Year's resolution for 2016 is to start investing like millionaires do, the following are some tips to help you imitate the wealthy in your own investment portfolio and investing practices. Ultra-rich, high-net-worth individuals (HNWI) do not really have a hidden book of secrets that makes them more successful as investors. In fact, many of the investing practices they follow are fairly well-known principles of smart investing, such as avoiding excessive risk, diversifying investments and minimizing transaction costs. While many people may envision the ultra-rich as recklessly betting a million at the drop of a hat, just the opposite is true. If anything, millionaires tend to focus more on avoiding risk than on potential rewards, and that may well be one point that distinguishes them from the average investor. Average investors often get caught looking at how much they might make and fail to take into account how much they might lose on a given investment. A survey conducted by U. S. Trust in 2013 found that more than 60% of millionaire investors put a higher emphasis on reducing risk than on potential returns. Wynn Resorts, Limited (WYNN) has provided numerous money making opportunities long and short over the last 12 months (Previous wins here) . It seems sentiment can change like the wind on the stock as concerns over revenues in Vegas and Macau continue to fluctuate. With earnings on the way, it maybe time to get in front of a move, which we think will be to the upside for Wynn Resorts, Limited (WYNN). The chart also shows a possible $5-$15+ short term rip to the upside. Either way, buying calls on a stock is akin to gambling, and what better place to gamble then on a casino stock like Wynn Resorts, Limited (WYNN). We currently have the $120$125 Oct 20th calls and looking for the stock to trade over $120 sometime this week. It is a very risky trade so if you are new to options, make sure you paper trade. Earnings season kicks into high gear this week with some major reports coming out this week. Better then expected China numbers is helping push the futures into solid green territory. Lets see how today plays out as I think the rest of the week should continue our journey to all-time high land soon. What I am watching today: ISRG reports tomorrow and upgraded by JP Morgan.
Spreads are big on the call side and expensive. May look to get some 575580 calls @ .60.40 - RISKY lottos but ISRG does have a tendency to move big after earnings. WYNN reports Weds? , or at least it looks that way. Will look for 120 calls @ .40 or so sometime after open. BLK had a nice writeup in Barron's. Still holding 190195 and 210 calls. MLNX is another reporter this week and moved huge last earnings. I have an odd feeling it sees $150 in short order but risky play. Holding $140 calls still. Still expecting more follow though on the PCLN sell-off, but will wait for 585 or so to add puts. Others I am watching: LNKD, SODA, SINA, BIDU. Lets have a great start to the week!
HPQ Will Reverse Course. HPQ was pounded last week after holding their Securities Analyst Meeting. The stock dropped to prices it hasn't seen since 2003, almost 10 years ago. Analysts hit the stock with a host of downgrades and new price targets, some as low as $10 a share. Pure brilliance to go out on a limb and downgrade a stock that has dropped from over $50 to $14 in over a year. Really? Do you have to go to college for that? It's like the weatherman issuing a hurricane watch while your paddling down your street in a canoe. A little late ehhh? Or shall we say better late than never. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Here are some of those brilliant analysts: Deutsche Bank cut their PT to $10. Goldman lowered their 12-month price target to $16 from $20. BMO is lowered their target price to $18 from $23. Sterne Agee lowered HPQ to a $21 price target. HPQ will recover, it may take time, and it may not last, but HPQ will go back over $20. Ultimately if HPQ does not right the ship the company is going the way of Kodak, but they still have plenty of time and I think this sell-off is over done. I am looking, and trading, for a move back to $17. I am trading out of the money calls specifically the $14 and $14.50 strike. I am in this weeks $14 & $14.50 calls as well as next weeks $14 and $14.50 calls. Next Weeks Oct 20 $14 calls are $.46 offer and $14.50 $.20 offer at today's close. I am looking for a very strong pop the next few trading days and for the stock to reverse its spectacular down trend. Dow At Major Support – Don’t Get Stopped Out By The Key Reversal. Here I attempt to do the only thing more impossible than the impossible. That is, not only predict where the market is going, but predict how it will occur. Today's price movement showed what looked like a breakdown from a double top formation. This pattern breakdown gives a target of about 13,050 on the Dow, however, I do not believe this level will be touched. Levels in the RSI often indicate support levels when touched, even if the price level at that point is not already known as a specific "support" point. If you look at the picture below of the Dow, you'll notice that price has tended to reverse back upward every time the RSI has touched the "35" level.
In addition, at these major bottoms, there was also a large, red candle like today. Notice, that while the RSI tended to bottom here, there was always an intraday low made after that point. This low was most often a "spike," which eventually formed a bullish key reversal . So do I believe we will have a "spike?" Yes, and if not tomorrow, very soon. With news of the Spanish debt downgrade by S & P this evening, we have a perfect environment for a temporary panic tomorrow morning. Where will the spike terminate? Assuming that we see a key reversal day by days end, the most likely target is at exactly 13,249 on the Dow. Below that, there is not much support, and then I would become significantly more bearish, with the next support level all the way down near 13,000. See the chart below for the Fibonacci confluence zones I am speaking of. I placed a rectangle on top of the immediate target zone. For those versed in Elliott wave, this would be the culmination of a "flat" correction, which would indicate the end of a wave four. Yes, that means the market gets one last gasp before the market starts to experience some more troublesome problems. If tomorrow is a key reversal, it gives a time target for the final top on October 26. For every day we don't see a flat market, move the time target forward one day. Diamond+ Portal.
